Introduction
The concept for the establishment of the college of Graduate studies and scientific research in the University of Bahr El Ghazal began in 1998. It was officially launched in 2000, when the university graduated several batches of undergraduates from colleges of Education, Veterinary Science and Medicine and Health Sciences. The establishment of the college fulfilled one of the major objectives of the university that is provision of highly qualified professionals to serve in the Greater Bahr El Ghazal region and the entire Republic of South Sudan. It has also achieved conduct of sound, reliable scientific and applied Research aimed at improving both performance and better utilization of available resources.
Furthermore, the college aims above all to boost the ability of graduates in decision making for the betterment and well-being of the population both at the region and national level in conformity with the aims and objective of the university.

Postgraduate Diploma programmes
The college is running postgraduate Diploma in the following fields: –
Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics:
This program has been established to serve the following objectives: –
- To develop the human resources in the field of mathematics
- To train human elements that meet the needs of professional mathematicians
- To improve mathematics skills and related fields.
Postgraduate Diploma in English Language: –
This programme is under the college of Education it and has been designed for teachers of English Language. It has its following objectives:
- training of career teachers of English language by providing them with adequate knowledge skills and methods of teaching English.
- laying foundation for future researchers in the field of English language teaching.
- formation of language planners and curriculum designers in English language teaching.
- training of experienced, effective and efficient English Professional teachers.
Duration of study: the programme last one academic year divided into two semesters.
Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration:
Public Administration study is one of the major sciences that is needed in all fields. The programme is to achieve the following objectives: –
- training of Candidates to serve in both public and private sectors.
- provides in-service training courses for serving officials, enterprises, public and business leaders to enable them participate effectively in social and economical development.
- acquaint the learners with concepts of public administration and its relation with other related sciences.
- prepare candidates academically to meet the requirements of academic institutions and research in field of public administration.
- Encourage candidates to participate in both public and private sectors to promote services delivering with high efficiency.
Duration of study: one academic year divided into two semesters.
Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Development:
The programmeis established under the college of Economics and Social Studies to serve the following objectives:-
- training of candidates in field of Rural Development to serve both public and private sectors.
- provides in-service training for local community leaders and NGOS.
- establish links and share experiences with other similar institutions nationally, regionally and internationally.
- assists in development of professional cadres in field of rural development.
- influence policies and planning of various development programmes.

Postgraduate Diploma in Education
the program is beginning soon the college. It is designed to serve the following objectives:-
- a) demonstrate understanding about current educational challenges in South Sudan.
- b) Analyse major learning theories and evaluate their underlying principles and potential benefits to South Sudan context.
- c) application of knowledge and skills in teaching and school organization.
- d) promote educational research and improve educational system in the country.
- e) give support and guidance to the educators and community members.
Masters Programs
Master by Courses and Dissertation Master in English language Teaching
The department of English language and literature offers Master Degree in teaching of English language to candidates wishing to specialized in English language.
The programme is designed to serve the following objectives; –
- acquiring adequate knowledge, skills and methods of teaching English.
- carryout research in field of English language and applied linguistics in general.
- acquire skills and ability to design materials for English language teaching for all levels of English language learners.
- improve language teaching in classroom practices.
Duration of study: two academic year divided into four semesters.
- Master by research in English language:
The procedure is that a candidate is to submit a proposal to be approved by the Research Board of the College of Education after a supervisor can be chosen. Candidates are required to conduct at least two seminars; one at the beginning of the study to pass his proposal and a second on check on his/her progress. The proposal should be in the field of linguistics and Applied Linguistics.
The minimum period for the study is two years.
- Master by Research veterinary
The college of Graduate Studies offers masters by research in the fields of veterinary.
Candidates are required to conduct at least two seminars during the course of their studies. One at the beginning of the study to pass his proposal and a second on check on his/her progress. The minimum period for the study is two years.
Philosophy doctorate (PhD)
The college of graduate studies offers PhD programmes in the following fields.
- Public Administration
- Business Administration
- Political Science
- Education
Candidates pursuing Doctorate Degree required to conduct at least three seminars during the course of their studies. These seminars are to be conducted under the immediate supervision of their supervisors.
