Introduction
The institute was established as a result of a Presidential decree promulgated by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of former Sudan in February 2002. The first admission comprised Twenty Five students. Lectures for academic year 2002/2003 started on the 5th May, 2003 in Wau campus. Since inception, a total of eight batches graduated from the institute.
Vision:
To make the Institute a leading Public Health Institute in South Sudan by teaching and training health- care personnel to cater effectively and efficiently for the healthful living of the citizens.
Mission:
The institute endeavors to fulfill health needs through teaching and training students on health issues, with emphasis on disease prevention, promotion of environmental awareness, physical fitness and health research.

____Objectives____
- To equip students with the knowledge and skills to identify and critically analyze and deal with public health problems.
- To prepare students to bring knowledge into practice.
- To develop communication skills of the students so that they can communicate effectively with the professionals as well as the community.
- To develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of research.
- To understand the basic legal and ethical principles relevant to public health work.
